Altus Group agrees to acquire Action Line Marking SA Pty Ltd.

Australia and New Zealand’s largest and leading traffic management provider, Altus Group Holdings (Altus), has executed transaction documents to acquire 100% of Action Line Marking and Roadline Removal (Action). The deal is expected to complete at the end of September.

The acquisition of Action will be Altus’ fifteenth acquisition in just over 2 years, following a number of business purchases and integrations in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA and NZ. It will be its first acquisition in SA and will be its largest foray into the road marking adjacency following the acquisition of a smaller road marking operation as part of the broader Schramm Group acquisition earlier this year.

Founded by Scott Dornan and Paul Wheeler in 1992, Action has built a strong reputation for high levels of customer service and holds long standing contracts with many of South Australia’s leading private and government asset managers. Action is an exceptionally run business with a great team of people, including some outstanding leaders and highly skilled operators. With an exceptional fleet and operating models, safety and high-quality service have been a hallmark of the company’s operations for many years and the acquisition will be an opportunity for those values to be built upon further. While operating largely in SA, Action brings a pedigree that will position it for cross border organic growth and further acquisitions in the road marking sector.

Action will be operated as a distinct business line within the Altus Group to ensure that both businesses can remain focussed, while similarly working to find new value propositions for our common customers. The Founders of Action will continue to operate the business under Altus’ ownership with no changes to the day-to-day operations. Altus has already conducted a strategic review of new target markets given current industry circumstances and is constructive on the opportunity to scale its road marking division materially.

Altus Group CEO Ben Marsonet said “Scott is a highly regarded industry operator who alongside his business partner Paul, has built something exceptional in the SA line marking market. Action’s approach to capital investment, customer service and staff development has been very impressive and something that clearly sets them apart in the industry. We feel strongly that Action is a platform asset that can absorb a significant amount of new growth bringing a higher level of service to the industry in other States. Together with Altus Group’s extensive traffic operations, we’re excited by what additional value we can bring to our common customers and the amazing employees of both companies. The transaction represents a significant investment into the road marking industry and illustrates our continued desire to fundamentally transform and improve standards across both our offerings.”

Scott said “Paul and I are very excited to be doing this transaction with Altus. Action has been a huge part of our lives for the last 32 years and the time has come to hand the business over to a partner that can take it to the next level. We are both looking forward to working with the Altus team over the next 12 months to set Action up to be the largest and highest quality line marking business across Australia.”

“To our customers and suppliers, thank you for all your support as we have built Action and we look forward to continuing to work together under the Altus Group banner. Finally, to our amazing team, Paul and I would like to say a huge thank you for all your support, Action would not be in the position we are today without the passion and hard work of each of you and we are excited about the future for each of you under Altus Groups ownership”

With the addition of Action to the Group, Altus now employs over 5,500 people in more than 55 operating locations throughout Australia and New Zealand, reinforcing its position as a market leader. The acquisition, along with those that preceded it, provide additional opportunities for Altus to scale its ground-breaking Workzone Digitisation solution, creating a step change in roadworker safety and providing customers with new data and insights to drive operational excellence.
