Our Commitment to Life-Saving Rules

At TMNZ, we believe that the safety of our employees is paramount. It's not just a responsibility; it's an essential part of our company culture. The implementation and rigorous enforcement of our Life-Saving Rules (LSR) underpin our commitment to ensuring a secure and risk-free environment for all staff members, across all levels of operations.

TMNZ’s Life-Saving Rules are not just guidelines but are principles carved into the operations of our daily tasks. These rules include strict protocols for safe driving, working around live traffic, adherence to safety controls, maintaining clear exclusion zones, and ensuring a drug and alcohol-free workplace. Each rule is backed by comprehensive procedures that detail the necessary steps and measures to safeguard our workforce effectively.

1. Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace
Our commitment to a drug and alcohol-free workplace is mandatory. Impairment by any substance can lead to decreased awareness, delayed reactions, and ultimately, accidents. We enforce a strict no-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol and drugs, which includes regular testing to ensure compliance. This rule is fundamental to maintaining not only the safety but also the integrity and professionalism of our workplace.

2. Safe Driving
Safe driving is essential not only for the safety of our employees but also for the public. We enforce strict compliance with all driving laws, regulations, and internal procedures, emphasising the importance of adapting to road conditions. This rule ensures that every journey, regardless of its length or complexity, is conducted under the safest possible conditions. Our drivers are trained to be vigilant, cautious, and always aware of their surroundings, significantly reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing road safety.

3. Exclusion Zones
Maintaining exclusion zones around mobile plant and machinery is crucial for preventing accidents. These zones are clearly defined areas where unauthorised personnel must not enter. By strictly enforcing these zones, we ensure that only qualified personnel with the necessary safety gear and training are allowed near operational machinery. This rule is essential for preventing injuries related to equipment operation and movement.

4. Mobile Phones
In our digital age, mobile phones can be a significant distraction that can lead to serious accidents, especially in areas requiring high concentration. At TMNZ, we restrict the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices during operational duties, particularly when directing traffic (Stop/Go duties) or operating machinery. This rule helps maintain focus and prevent distractions that could lead to accidents or errors.

5. Working in and Around Live Traffic
Working near live traffic poses significant risks, and minimising exposure is crucial. Our protocols require the use of barriers, signs, and proper signals to alert and manage the flow of traffic effectively. Employees are trained to be highly aware of their environment and to use all available safety measures to protect themselves and others. This rule is vital for projects that intersect with public roads and busy areas, ensuring that both our workforce and the public are kept safe from harm.

6. Safety Controls
Adhering to safety controls for critical activities is a non-negotiable aspect of our safety protocol. This rule covers everything from the correct operation of machinery to the enforcement of lockout-tagout procedures that prevent accidental machine start-ups. Our employees are trained to follow these controls meticulously, ensuring that every safety measure is in place before any work begins. This diligence prevents accidents and safeguards against unforeseen hazards.

Enforcement and Compliance

Compliance with these rules is mandatory. TMNZ has a zero-tolerance policy for violations, which is communicated clearly to all employees. If there's pressure to compromise on these rules or if an employee feels that the only way to accomplish a task is by breaking a rule, they are instructed to stop and contact a supervisor. Choosing to ignore these rules is synonymous with choosing not to be a part of our team.

Training and Continuous Improvement

TMNZ invests heavily in training programs that not only emphasise the importance of these rules but also equip our employees with the knowledge and skills to implement them. Regular audits and feedback sessions are conducted to ensure these rules are being followed and to identify areas for improvement.

Our commitment to the Life-Saving Rules is a reflection of our broader commitment to safety and health in the workplace. At TMNZ, we believe that an effective safety program is one that prevents accidents and saves lives. By integrating these rules into our daily operations, we protect our employees, our assets, and our community.
